Overview: IRCTC Ltd. Proposes to operate " Majestic Northeast with Kamakhya Darshan Rail Tour.” by Kamrup Exp train no 15959/60 in 3AC classes, covering the sightseeing place of Kamakhya, Kaziranga, Shillong, Cherrapunjee and Jowai. All these places leave a powerful spiritual and emotional impact on pilgrims.
Kamakhya Temple
One of the most important Shakti Peethas in India, dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. It sits on Nilachal Hill overlooking the Brahmaputra River. The temple is known for its spiritual significance, Tantric traditions, and the annual Ambubachi Mela. Most travelers start their Northeast journey from here via Guwahati.
Kaziranga National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for the one-horned rhinoceros. The park has open grasslands, wetlands, and dense forests. Jeep safaris (and elephant safaris in season) are the main attractions. It’s one of the best wildlife experiences in India.
The capital of Meghalaya, often called the “Scotland of the East” due to its rolling hills and colonial charm. It offers pleasant weather, cafes, viewpoints like Shillong Peak, and attractions such as Ward’s Lake and the vibrant Police Bazaar.
Cherrapunjee (Sohra)
Known as one of the wettest places on Earth. Famous for dramatic cliffs, living root bridges, Nohkalikai Falls, and misty valleys. It’s more scenic and nature-focused than Shillong, with heavy rainfall shaping its landscape.
A less touristy but extremely beautiful town in the Jaintia Hills. Known for crystal-clear rivers like the Myntdu, waterfalls such as Krang Suri nearby, and serene landscapes. It offers a quieter, more offbeat Meghalaya experience.
