Gujarat is a state in the western part of India famous for its diverse culture, heritage and authentic cuisine. It’s one of the unique and marvelous sights of India. Situated on the banks of Sabarmati River, Gujarat houses some of the best artifacts from the medieval period. Gujarat is also the land of Lord Krishna. It’s the hometown to India famous freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi.
Ahmedabad: Founded in the 15th century, Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. The city is a vibrant business district and rising centre of education, information technology and scientific industries. The Akshardham Temple at Ahmedabad is beauty par excellence.
Somnath: One of the most celebrated pilgrimage sites, Somnath temple is located on the western coast of Gujarat. The temple holds much importance in the hearts of Lord Shiva devotees as it is believed to house one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva which are considered the manifestation of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the Moon (Chandra) got cursed by his father-in-law, Daksh after he married the twenty-seven stars. Daksh cursed him that he would lose his Kala (Art) every day and decrease in size till he becomes invisible. Later, Chandra was told by Lord Brahma that if he worships Lord Shiva, he can get his way out of the curse. Chandra meditated and prayed to Lord Shiva and Shiva gave Chandra the boon that he will grow back to his size. Today, the place where Chandra worshipped Lord Shiva is known as Somnath which means the ‘Lord of Moon’. Also, the moon is believed to be the brightest in Somnath. The temple also has a Kund (pool) which was created by the Devas and thus, devotees from all over the world visit here to take a dip in this pool. It is believed that the people can wash away their sins by taking a dip in this pool.
Porbandar: Porbandar is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. Places to visit includes Kriti Mandir s memorial house in memory of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi located in the city of Porbandar. The Sudama temple stands in the middle of the bustling market area of Porbandar. The light pink temple stands amidst a copse of trees, which offer shade to the visitors. The temple has been built to commemorate the friendship between Lord Krishna and his trusted friend, Sudama. The temple is simple but adorned with marble pillars and an intricately sculpted shikhara.
Dwarka: Dwarka is an ancient city in the northwestern Indian state of Gujarat. The ancient Dwarkadhish Temple has an elaborately tiered main shrine, a carved entrance and a black-marble idol of Lord Krishna. The Dwarkadhish temple, also known as the Jagat Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Lord Krishna, the temple is located at Dwarka city, which is one of the destinations of Char Dham, a Hindu pilgrimage circuit. The pilgrimage to Dwarka is said to be complete if the following circuit is covered in the given order.
