Puducherry, formerly known as Pondicherry, gained its significance as "the French Riviera of the East" after the advent of French colonialisation in India. Puducherry is the Tamil interpretation of "new town" and mainly derives from "Poduke", the name of the marketplace or "port town" for Roman trade in the 1st century, as mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea. The settlement was once an abode of learned scholars versed in the Vedas, hence it was also known as Vedapuri.
Mamallapuram, or Mahabalipuram, is a town on a strip of land between the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake, in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s known for its temples and monuments built by the Pallava dynasty in the 7th and 8th centuries. The seafront Shore Temple comprises 3 ornate granite shrines. Krishna’s Butter Ball is a massive boulder balanced on a small hill near the Ganesha Ratha stone temple.

Start from Chennai at 07.00 hrs. Arrive Pondicherry by 11.00 hrs. Check in to the hotel. Visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry Museum, Botanical Garden, French Colony & Old Lighthouse, French War Memorial, Auroville Serenity Beach. Overnight Stay at Pondicherry.
Day 02:
After breakfast visit Manakula Vinayagar Temple, Auroville Matrimandir and Proceed to Mahabalipuram. Visit Mabalipuram First to the Sea Shore temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Vishnu, and then to Five Rathas "Five Chariots and back to Chennai by 22.00 hrs
